ABC of Mental Health

Adulting

Hello! Welcome to another edition of the ABC of Mental Health, your partner in the journey to better mental health — one newsletter at a time. This week’s theme is Adulting. We bring it to your inbox this Thursday to make your Thursday a little therapeutic!

One relevant recommendation:

Two quotes on Adulting and Growing Up:

Nitya Prakash, a writer, a banker, a management expert, an investment consultant, software engineer, motivational speaker:

Adulthood is like looking both ways before you cross the street and then getting hit by an aeroplane.”

Sarah Dessen, an American author known for her poignant coming-of-age novels exploring themes of love, friendship, and self-discovery:

"Growing up is never easy. You hold on to things that were. You wonder what's to come. But that night, I think we knew it was time to let go of what had been, and look ahead to what would be. Other days. New days. Days to come."

Three TherapyShorts from TST (on adulting)

  1. Nobody has it all figured out: Yes, you read that right. Nobody has it all figured out, not even the influencers with perfect lives on social media, not the celebrities with their seemingly ideal bodies, not your neighbours, not your friends, not even your therapist (LOL!!!). We are all doing the best we can, and usually making it up as we go along.

  2. Showing up is everything: In the world of adulting, simply showing up can make all the difference. Picture this: you've got a weekly dinner date with friends. Even when you're tired or busy, making the effort to be there not only strengthens those bonds but also brings a sense of reliability and support to the group. It's like watering a plant regularly—if you skip a week, it might survive, but keep it up consistently, and you'll see it thrive. Whether it's showing up for work with a positive attitude or sticking to that hobby you love, consistency is the secret sauce that keeps life humming along smoothly. So, grab your keys, put on your favourite playlist, and show up—it's where the magic happens!

  3. Life doesn’t get easier, you level up: Life's a game where each level gets tougher, but so do you. Just like in your favourite video game, as you face challenges and conquer them, you level up. Whether it's mastering public speaking or budgeting like a pro, every win makes you stronger and more capable of what's next. So, keep playing, and keep levelling up, because the best rewards often come after the toughest battles!

Love and light,
